The different types of accidents at work

Attacks at work
Violence in the workplace is thankfully rare, but if you've been injured in an attack you could make a claim for compensation.

Carpal tunnel
Carpal tunnel syndrome can be common among those in manual labour jobs and cause aches, pains and numbness in your arms, hands and fingers.

Farm accidents
If you work in the agriculture industry, you'll know that farms can be dangerous places if the proper care and attention are not taken.

Forklift accidents
In warehouses and factories, forklifts are an essential part of the working day but they have the potential to cause serious injury.

Vibration white finger
Those who use power tools regularly can suffer from vibration white finger, a painful tingling and numbness in the arms and hands.

Crush injuries
Where heavy machinery or materials are used, crush injuries are a very real threat and you could claim if you've suffered an accident of this kind.

Deafness
A workplace injury or constant exposure to loud noises can lead to deafness, and if the proper safety protocols are not followed then you might have a claim.

Industrial accidents
Sadly, these are common and can cover a wide range of injuries, so if someone else was at fault then you could have a strong case for compensation.

Construction accidents
With so many people, tools, vehicles and materials moving around busy building sites, these workplace accidents are a sad occurrence.

Machinery accidents
They improve speed and efficiency, but machines can also be highly dangerous and the injuries can be severe.

Chemical injury burns
Any chemicals or hazardous substances should be stored and used in line with strict safety guidelines. If not, you could suffer a serious injury and have grounds for a claim.

How do I start claiming for an accident at work?

You can begin your claim for accident at work compensation in a number of different ways:

  • Give us a call and speak to one of our advisors on 0800 587 0344. Our lines are open seven days a week until late and we'll give you an instant assessment of your claim.
  • Fill out our form with your name, number and accident type. We'll call you back at no charge.
  • Use our accident at work compensation calculator tool for an immediate claim valuation. Depending on your situation, you might be able to go ahead with your case entirely online.

How does the claims process work?

Once we've decided that you have a legitimate case, your claim will usually follow these steps:

  1. Your solicitor will gain an idea of how your injury has affected you and they may ask you to provide evidence in the form of photos or medical records.
  2. Once they have all the details, your lawyer will notify the party who was at fault for your accident.
  3. That person or business will either accept the blame or contest it. If they contest it, your solicitor will enter negotiations on your behalf.
  4. If your claim is successful, you will receive your compensation and your work accident lawyer will take their payment. This will be discussed and agreed with you at the beginning of your claim. In the event that you lose, there'll be nothing for you to pay.

Can I make an injury at work claim online?

Other companies use their calculator as a way to encourage you to contact them. But here at ClaimsPeople, we're different. Our tool provides an immediate, indicative claim valuation and will let you know if you can continue with your case online.

How long will my workplace injury claim take?

We'll always assess your workplace injury claim quickly and let you know immediately if you have a case. And your accident at work solicitor will offer end-to-end support, doing all the legal legwork for you and keeping you updated every step of the way.

Every workplace injury claim is different, and the time for each one to be settled can vary. The time it takes for your case will depend on factors such as the severity of your injuries, if there is evidence to be gathered and whether the other party accepts responsibility for the accident.

How much compensation might I be entitled to?

It's not always easy to offer a straight answer to this question, as all accident at work claims are different. A lot of things are taken into account when your compensation is calculated - for example, the extent of your injuries and how your mental, emotional and financial wellbeing has been impacted. When assessing damages, we follow the 15th edition of the Judicial College Guidelines. These also inform our compensation calculator.

Rest assured your work accident solicitor will do everything they can to make sure you receive the maximum compensation possible. If you are successful in your claim, the money will be paid by the other party's insurance provider.

InjuryCompensation range
Minor brain or head injury£2,070 - £11,980
Fractured cheekbone£2,180 - £9,570
Serious shoulder injury£11,980 - £18,020 (with recovery over 2 years)
Back injury causing permanent symptoms£11,730 - £26,050 (with recovery over 2 years)
Hip or pelvis injury£3,710 - £24,950
Fractured forearm£6,190 - £18,020
Wrist injury£3,310 - £44,690
Ankle injury£12,900 - £46,980

How much will I pay my solicitor if I win?

If you win your injury at work claim, the party responsible for the accident may be required to contribute towards your legal costs. This is usually not enough to cover the full amount, so your solicitor will take a percentage of your compensation to account for the rest. These costs could include any insurance you've taken out to make your claim risk-free, as well as any success fee to be paid to your solicitor.

Any deduction from your compensation will be capped at a level that you agree to. Your work accident lawyer will talk you through all of this before you start, so there'll be no nasty surprises once your claim is settled.

Do I need to take out no win no fee insurance?

We recommend you let us take out no win no fee insurance (also called After the Event insurance) on your behalf when we take on your case. This type of policy is entirely organised by us, and you will only pay for the cover if you win your accident at work claim

If you do have to pay, the cost of the policy will have been agreed between you and your work accident solicitor before your case is launched. The cost is capped too, and is paid for from your compensation. This means no surprises when it comes to cost.

Is my claim likely to go to court?

Most injury at work claims are settled without the need to go to court. However, if an agreement cannot be reached or the other party refuses to accept the blame for the accident, the case may have to be decided through formal court proceedings.

If that happens to you, there's no need to worry. Your workplace injury lawyer will take care of all the legal stuff and keep you fully up to date with everything that's going on.

What if I lose my accident at work claim?

If your work accident compensation claim proves unsuccessful, there'll be nothing for you to pay. That's because we take the vast majority of cases on a no win no fee basis.
